They Brought Me Your Memories
At no particular hour this afternoon following an indeterminate wait they brought me your memories--I balked under their unexpected mass, a weight far greater than I would have guessed from what we shared. Days I knew nothing about filled your life unspoken to me even in our happiest times treasures held close to your mind, lifetime upon lifetime clasped silently, endlessly, within furrows planted more deeply than those you ever let me follow while you lived beside me. Freely given now as all other things were while we sailed the curves of suns and surfed waves from novas-- too late I learned all you ever wanted was just to hold me with our bodies intertwined root-deep on new grass breathing each other's breaths without masks.
