G. M. Palmer's family has lived in Florida since before it was a state, and he continues this tradition by residing in Jacksonville.

He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida (2000) and master's degree from the University of New Orleans (2007).

Apart from writing and editing poetry, Michael teaches, tutors, sings, cooks, and plays the blues.

Michael, his wife Heather, and their daughters Cordelia and Josephine live in an old, wood-frame house with their dog Vonnegut.
