Sonnet 36: Ivrim

Your only daughter is drowning, HaShem,
My husband stands behind me on the shore,
On the other, I glimpse Your grace and more,
But I don't know how to reconcile them.

I am meant to be one of the Ivrim,
Fording mighty rivers, one who crosses,
But whichever course I set risks losses,
And each delay draws me further downstream.

Trapped between love and awe, how can I choose?
Why show me a gate I can't walk through?
Why offer us a future I can't share?

Each way I turn, shows me something I lose,
Each step forward is one I can't undo,
To be here, I must first return from there.
